AfD Launches School Violence Reporting Portal, Calls for Committee Discussion
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has expressed concern over escalating violence in German schools. They aim to address this issue by launching a reporting portal and pushing for a discussion in the education and legal affairs committee.
AfD's parliamentary business manager, Dennis Hohloch, has warned that German children attending schools are no longer safe. The party believes there has been a rise in incidents involving students with a migration background. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), registered violent crime among children under 14 has indeed increased recently.
Last year, 7% of suspects in violent crime were children, and almost 16% were juveniles under 18. In Brandenburg alone, there were 3,209 offenses at schools in 2023, with bodily harm offenses increasing by 131 to 1,113 in 2024. The AfD faction in Potsdam is launching a reporting portal to investigate these incidents, allowing affected individuals to describe cases and upload videos and audio documents.
The AfD faction, led by Lena Kotré as interior policy spokeswoman, plans to tackle the issue of violence in schools. Despite her claim that right-wing extremism in schools is a legend, the party aims to provide a platform for victims and push for a discussion in the relevant committee. The portal's launch and the proposed debate signal their commitment to addressing the perceived increase in violence among students.
