Amanda Knox teams up with Monica Lewinsky to tell their personal tales on television
Amanda Knox, the American exchange student whose wrongful conviction in the murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher made international headlines in 2007, has found a new passion: producing. Knox, now an executive producer, has teamed up with Monica Lewinsky, another woman with a controversial past, for the eight-part series "The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox" on Hulu.
Knox spent four years behind bars, convicted and reconvicted of murder before being cleared in 2015. Her story is now being dramatised in the series, with Grace Van Patten playing the role of Knox. Rudy Guede, the only person definitively convicted in Kercher's murder, was released from prison in 2021.
Lewinsky, known for her public sex scandal with then-U.S. President Bill Clinton in the late 1990s, co-produced the limited series Impeachment: American Crime Story for FX and delivered a TED Talk on "The Price of Shame" in 2015. She put together the new series The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox inspired by a New York Times article.
K.J. Steinberg, showrunner of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, researched the case extensively, using court documents, forensic files, police reports, witness depositions, and judges' decisions. The project developer of the series is 20th Television in collaboration with The Littlefield Company, with KJ Steinberg as creator and executive producer, and executive producers including Warren Littlefield, Lisa Harrison, Ann Johnson, Graham Littlefield, Monica Lewinsky, Amanda Knox, and Chris Robinson. Amanda Knox herself is also an executive producer on the series.
Amanda Knox is not only an executive producer but also a podcast host. She and her husband, Christopher Robinson, host two true crime podcasts together. Knox has also found a creative outlet in music, singing with others who were wrongly convicted in a band called The Exonerees.
Lewinsky, an anti-bullying activist and a podcaster with a master's degree in social psychology, has given Knox advice and support, with Lewinsky helping Knox before her first public talk in 2017. Knox serves on the board of The Innocence Center, a nonprofit dedicated to freeing innocent people from prison.
The series promises to be a gripping exploration of the Amanda Knox case, shedding light on the complexities and controversies that surrounded her trial and conviction. With the involvement of Lewinsky and Knox themselves, viewers can expect a unique and insightful perspective on this highly publicised case.
