On Sunday, 22nd of June, from 11 am to 4:30 pm, the Düsseldorf University Hospital will play host to a unique and heartwarming event – the Teddy Hospital. This initiative, organised by medical students from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, including faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy, as well as trainees in nursing, physiotherapy, and orthoptics/eye clinic, aims to make hospital visits less intimidating for young patients.

The Teddy Hospital will be located on the lawn between Düsseldorf University Hospital and the University, between Selma-Meyer and Wiesbadener streets. No health insurance card or appointment is needed to visit the Teddy Hospital. Children aged three to six can learn to overcome their fear of doctors and hospitals in a playful way.

The Teddy Hospital offers child-friendly equipment for examinations, including a Teddy X-ray machine, a special device for Teddy blood analysis, and a CT scan. This year, for the first time, Physician Assistant students from the Fliedner Fachhochschule are also involved.

Ben Opgen-Rhein, a member of the Teddy Hospital's organisation team, shares the team's excitement for the upcoming event. The Teddy Hospital's motto is: "What I know and understand, causes me less fear when I have to go to the hospital or the doctor myself."

At the Teddy Hospital, children can observe hospital procedures closely as their stuffed animals are the patients. This hands-on approach helps children feel more comfortable, informed, and empowered by familiarising them with the hospital experience through their teddy bears, effectively easing their fears.

The Teddy Hospital event is a testament to the compassion and innovation of the healthcare professionals of tomorrow. It's a wonderful opportunity for children to learn in a fun and engaging way, while also helping to alleviate the anxiety often associated with hospital visits. So, bring your stuffed animal along and join the Teddy Hospital event at Düsseldorf University Hospital on Sunday!
