Businesses Embrace Inclusion to Tap Talent Pool and Customers
Businesses are increasingly focusing on inclusion to tap into a significant talent pool and customer base. A recent survey revealed alarming figures about discrimination faced by job seekers with disabilities. Nora Bilz of myAbility and Meike Dietzel of Doctolib discussed unconscious barriers and the shift to an inclusive corporate culture.
To foster inclusion, companies need management support, a clear plan, and a responsible point of contact. Around 20% of the working-age population in Germany lives with a disability, making inclusion a strategic move.
Inclusive job advertisements should actively invite applicants with disabilities and signal openness to individual solutions. Feeling safe and welcome is crucial for these applicants, who appreciate authenticity and support, such as workplace adaptations or internal networks.
Hotels have implemented inclusion measures through CSR initiatives, creating barrier-free environments and supporting social inclusion projects. However, full accessibility is not always necessary; an open, solution-oriented attitude is key. Digital accessibility, like automatic sign language translation, can also improve participation and reach new customer groups.
To address systemic disadvantages, knowledge transfer and involving people with disabilities as consultants or trainers are vital. A contact person for diversity and inclusion is crucial for training, optimizing processes, and making successes visible.
With 78% of respondents experiencing discrimination after disclosing their disability, companies must strategically approach inclusion. By creating inclusive job ads, offering support, and fostering an open attitude, businesses can tap into a significant talent pool and customer base, while also enhancing their corporate culture.
