Celebration of Sports Day Happening on 25th of April in Upper Austria

Upper Austria orchestrates a three-day initiative titled "Moving Weekend," invigorating sports and physical activity across the region. Set to commence on April 25th, the community-wide initiative will underscore the importance of an active lifestyle.

According to Markus Achleitner, Councillor for Economics and Sports, this event represents a united front of Upper Austria, schools, and the health department, promising a weekend of movement for all generations. The decentralized effort, taking place in schools, kindergartens, clubs, and communities, aims to inspire a considerable number of residents to embrace physical activity.

The initial focus on the 25th will revolve around organized sports, including school sports and club activities, with an invitation extended to clubs, associations, schools, and communities to participate in various sports events. "Rolling, Sliding, Gliding" will serve as the thematic guide for the School Sports Day, complemented by taster sessions in clubs. This initiative will build upon the successful pilot project "Sports Day" and form the cornerstone of an entire weekend dedicated to movement.

"Sustainable integration of sports within society requires strong partnerships with education and health," notes Education Director Alfred Klampfer, emphasizing the significance of early exposure to sports. The annual state championship-level school sports competitions attended by approximately 20,000 children reinforce the lasting impact of school sports in Upper Austria.

Furthermore, the GEMMA Upper Austria Challenge will follow the School Sports Day. Running from April 27th to August 4th, this initiative aims to identify the most active community in Upper Austria while inviting clubs and school classes to join in. The objective is to stimulate collective movement among communities, with residents encouraged to participate. For further information, visit www.healthy-upperaustria.at.
