New Recruits Join the German Customs Office

The German Customs Office recently welcomed 28 new recruits during a ceremony, marking the start of their careers in the federal administration. These new colleagues will be tasked with contributing to tax revenues, consumer protection, securing jobs, and the digitization of the administration in Germany.

As part of the outdoor program, a demonstration by customs dog Berta was showcased, providing a glimpse into the day-to-day operations of the Customs Office. The new recruits were also given a tour of the departments and interest groups of the Main Customs Office to help them familiarize themselves with their new workplace.

The new recruits will be filling the void left by retiring baby boomer generations, as they join the efforts to maintain the smooth running of the Customs Office. For this purpose, 7 trainees will start dual studies for a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in the higher customs service, and 21 trainees will begin training as financial officers in the middle customs service at the Main Customs Office Braunschweig.

The practical phases of the training will be spent in various areas of the training customs office, nearby customs offices, customs investigation offices, and suitable areas of the General Customs Directorate. The theoretical parts for the middle service are completed at the training centers of the Federal Finance Administration's Education and Science Center, while the dual studies for the higher service are completed at the Federal Administration Academy in Münster.

Mrs. Senior Government Counselor Kerstin Müller was appointed as the permanent representative of the Main Customs Office management. However, as of the beginning of 2026, there are no publicly available, specific details about the leaders of the Hauptzollamt Braunschweig.

Inquiries about the application process should be directed to [email protected], while media representatives can contact Hauptzollamt Braunschweig Press Spokesperson Dagmar Taeger at 0531/1291-1016, [email protected], or [email protected].

After completing their dual studies or training, young customs officers can expect to be deployed in various areas of the customs administration. Detailed information on application, recruitment, training, and study at customs can be found at www.zoll-karriere.de or www.zoll.de ("Careers"). The new recruits are joining the Customs Administration for a secure job with many exciting and varied tasks.
