Century of Creativity: A Showcase of 100 Exceptional Artists

The Lehigh Valley is witnessing a surge in creative output and the number of artists residing and working within its boundaries. This flourishing artistic community is being celebrated through the "Here and Now: 100 Years of LUAG, 100 Local Artists" exhibition at Lehigh University's Linderman Library Art Galleries (LUAG).

The exhibition, running from September 2, 2025, to May 22, 2026, is a collaborative effort between Lehigh students and local artists. Students enrolled in the ART275: Museum Collections and Exhibitions class will select and purchase local artworks for LUAG's collection. Director William Crow, who is also a Professor of Practice in Art, Architecture, and Design, encourages students to choose art that "speaks to the times in which we live."

The ART275 class, which was full with a waiting list as of June, is a significant part of LUAG's mission to connect artists, neighbors, and people from all walks of life. LUAG aims to serve as a go-to site for a wide range of experiences, fostering a sense of community and appreciation for art.

The exhibition will feature 100 works by local artists, each offering a unique perspective on the Lehigh Valley's creative scene. To further immerse visitors in the local arts community, students will interview artists who participated in the "Here and Now" exhibition.

To kick off the exhibition, a free event called "Light Up LUAG" is planned for September 19, 2025, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This event will include artmaking, food, music, and other activities throughout the main gallery and Zoellner Arts Center.

The "Light Up LUAG" event and the "Here and Now" exhibition are not the only offerings from LUAG. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of receptions, lectures, community workshops, and special events, ensuring a rich and engaging experience for all visitors.

LUAG's collection spans 5,000 years of art from around the globe, but the "Here and Now" exhibition is a testament to the importance of contemporary art in understanding the present moment. As Director Crow notes, all art was contemporary at some point in time, revealing insights about the makers and their context.

By showcasing the work of local artists, LUAG aims to help all visitors gain a better understanding of what is valued at the current moment in time. The Lehigh Valley's creative production and the number of artists living and working there are growing, and LUAG is proud to be a part of this thriving artistic community.
