Children's Rights Debate Holds in the North Rhine-Westphalia Legislature

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, the state parliament is set to host a captivating event in celebration of World Children's Day. The day promises a variety of engaging activities for elementary school children, including an exhibition titled "Our voice counts!", organised by the children's protection association.

At the heart of the event is the unveiling of the first Pixi book of the Landtag, titled "Night at the Parliament." This book, which will be distributed freely to families, depicts animals meeting at night in parliament to show how conflicts are resolved and decisions are made. The author of this intriguing book remains unspecified in the available sources.

The Pixi book, to be presented by André Kuper, president of the state parliament, emphasises the indispensable role of children's rights in democracy. It underscores the notion that every voice counts in democracy, as depicted in the story of Anton and Luise, two main characters who are having a dispute about a better spot to find food. The book teaches children about democracy and conflict resolution in a fun and engaging manner.

In addition to the Pixi book, visitors can expect a "Democracy tour" that allows them to explore the state parliament with their smartphones. This interactive tour promises to be an educational and enjoyable experience.

Entertainment for the day includes face painting, a Children's wheel of fortune with small prizes, and a Kiddy-Fun playmobile. The Mouse and Shaun the Sheep will also be present, adding to the festive atmosphere.

For those interested in learning first aid tips, Kampi and puppet Paul will be on hand to provide guidance. A drawing, crafting, and stamping station will also be available for children to express their creativity.

A "Find Helene" rally is scheduled, adding an element of adventure to the day. A guestbook for children and a digital guestbook will be available, allowing them to share their thoughts and experiences from the event.

Lastly, "SpaceBuzz One" and "School_Lab" by the German Aerospace Center will be present, offering a glimpse into the world of space exploration. Checker Julian will be in the plenary hall, adding a touch of political intrigue to the day.

The state parliament will be open from 12 PM to 6 PM, ensuring that children and families have ample time to enjoy the various activities and exhibitions on offer. This promises to be a day filled with learning, fun, and celebration of children's rights and voices in democracy.
