Halle (Saale) is set to embark on an exciting new initiative aimed at promoting school health and physical activity among children. The "Movement Heroes" project, a comprehensive collaboration between the city, local partners, and schools, is scheduled to begin at three primary schools: Free Primary School "Friedemann Bach Halle", Primary School "Ulrich von Hutten", and Special School "Christian-Gotthilf-Salzmann".

The project, funded by the city of Halle (Saale) and the GKV alliance for health in Saxony-Anhalt, is designed to encourage movement and active lifestyles among children. It will incorporate activating breaks with a movement coach, moving learning hours, play and movement offers on the schoolyard, and school-internal competitions.

The public kick-off for the project will take place on August 15, 2025, from 10 to 12 am, on the Cube Lawn. The event, open to children from nearby kindergartens, families, and all interested citizens, will feature interactive stations such as a movement course, health quiz, memory game, fruit skewer creation, and a "Relaxation Island" with stories and guided imagery for children. The event will also include the "Right to Health" station of the existing "Children's Rights Learning Trail", an interactive learning trail focused on children's rights.

SV Halle e.V., the Children's Rights Office of the city, and other partners are involved in testing new ways of promoting school health. The project is further supported by the accident insurance company of Saxony-Anhalt, the consumer center of Saxony-Anhalt e.V., the USV Halle e.V., the GP Günter Papenburg AG, and dm-drogerie markt.

The city's health department oversees and evaluates the "Movement Heroes" project. The project aims to permanently anchor movement in daily school life, strengthen physical and mental health of children, and positively influence social skills and learning outcomes. Particular emphasis is placed on promoting health-conscious behavior, reducing excessive screen time, and facilitating access to organized sports.
