City-Sparkasse Solingen and Biological Station Mittlere Wupper team up for a collaborative school initiative
In a commendable move towards sustainability and environmental education, Solingen Sparkasse and the Biological Station Middle Wupper have joined forces to launch the 'BIDI - Shaping Habitats Together - Experiencing Biodiversity' project. This educational initiative aims to engage secondary school students with the topic of biodiversity through practical, hands-on learning experiences.
Key Details of the BIDI Project
The BIDI project is a collaborative effort between two key partners:
- Solingen Sparkasse: A local financial institution supporting community and educational projects.
- Biological Station Middle Wupper: An organization dedicated to environmental education and conservation in the Middle Wupper region.
The project's target group consists of secondary school students from Solingen and the surrounding areas. The objectives are threefold:
- Raise awareness about biodiversity and its importance.
- Provide students with direct engagement through fieldwork and interactive learning.
- Encourage sustainable behavior and interest in natural sciences.
Activities and Educational Benefits
The project typically includes field trips to local natural habitats, workshops and seminars led by experts, biodiversity monitoring and data collection exercises, use of ecological methods to study flora and fauna, and discussions on human impact and conservation strategies.
Students stand to gain experiential knowledge, develop scientific skills, and enhance their environmental responsibility. The regional focus on local biodiversity within the Middle Wupper area ensures a relevant and tangible learning experience.
Registration and Modules
Interested schools can choose from three modules: 'Excursions', 'Practical Days', and 'On-Site Eco-Checks'. For more detailed curricula, participation criteria, or information on how schools can get involved, contact Linda Eiermann at 0212 / 286 - 2858 or [email protected].
The August-Dicke School is one of the schools that have registered, and the Solingen Sparkasse and the Biological Station Middle Wupper recently visited the school. The first ten schools to register for the project by February 28 will receive a free project day. As of now, four schools have already registered for the project.
Cooperation and networking are key to actively promoting ecological and social issues. The project is designed for secondary schools throughout the city of Solingen.
Andreas Tangemann, deputy member of the board of the Solingen Sparkasse, emphasizes the importance of children's education in sustainability topics. Dr. Jan Boomers, director of the Biological Station, expressed that the project is an opportunity to raise awareness about biodiversity among children and young people. The Biological Station Middle Wupper is a knowledgeable partner for the 'BIDI' project, committed to providing a space for participation and knowledge building in the area of biodiversity.
- The BIDI project, a collaboration between Solingen Sparkasse and the Biological Station Middle Wupper, offers secondary school students an opportunity to learn about environmental science and education-and-self-development through hands-on learning experiences, focusing on biodiversity.
- By participating in the BIDI project's modules such as 'Excursions', 'Practical Days', and 'On-Site Eco-Checks,', students can gain knowledge in science, develop their skills, and strengthen their understanding of their environmental responsibility.
