Clash of Aerial Skills in Kamchatka: Drones Vie for Dominance
In a historic first, Kamchatka Krai witnessed the inaugural outdoor drone racing competition on June 9, 2025. Organised by the Ministry of Digital Development of Kamchatka Krai, the event took place at the "Patriot" youth center in Kamchatka Krai.
The "Patriot" Center, known for teaching drone assembly, maintenance, and their application in civilian and patriotic purposes, provided the competition space. The competition was significant as it marked the first time such tournaments were held outdoors in Kamchatka, following previous indoor events.
Each athlete completed the track twice, and winners were determined by the best time sum. The competition featured two categories: amateurs and professionals, attracting participants from various cities, including Yelizovo, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and the Viluchinsky City District.
Artem Fedorov (Center "Voyn") emerged victorious in the competition, while Mikhail Shevchuk (Center "Voyn") placed second. Mikhail Pakhomov (Kamchatka Drone Racing Federation) finished third. Participants competed in the "Obstacle Course" and "Drone Racing" disciplines.
Sergei Voroshilov, Head of the Education Department of Yelizovsky Municipal District, noted the uniqueness of the new drone territory at the "Patriot" Center. Alexander Belikov, the Director of the "Patriot" Center, emphasized the significance of the event, noting that drone operation is a promising direction for preparing youth for the future.
The "Patriot" Center houses the largest open drone territory in Kamchatka, built in collaboration with the regional Mincifrы last year. Plans were announced to hold such tournaments regularly, including at the regional level.
This first-of-its-kind competition in the region showcased the potential for drone racing in Kamchatka Krai, attracting attention from both participants and spectators alike. As the sport continues to grow, it's expected that future events will further solidify Kamchatka Krai's position in the drone racing community.
