News Article: War Correspondent Martin Dorazin's Documentary to be Screened at Sciences Po

In an extraordinary event, the School of Public Affairs at Sciences Po is hosting a special screening of the documentary "War Correspondent," focusing on the life and work of renowned Czech war reporter Martin Dorazin.

The documentary, titled "War Correspondent," delves into the world of one of the Czech Republic's most experienced war reporters, offering a unique insight into his experiences and perspectives as a frontline journalist covering conflicts. The film promises to provide an impactful and honest look at the realities of war journalism, leaving "no one indifferent" about the harsh truths of war[1].

Martin Dorazin, who has been a war correspondent for Czech Radio since 1990, has reported from various locations, including the Balkans, Afghanistan, and Ukraine. In October 2022, he was appointed as the permanent correspondent in Ukraine, and in January 2022, he left his post as a correspondent in Warsaw to go to Mariupol[2][3]. Despite the fall of Mariupol, Dorazin continued to report on intense battle scenes.

The film immerses viewers in the daily lives of ordinary people facing the enduring consequences of war, shedding light on the current context of the war in Ukraine. It also highlights the unwavering resilience of civilians as the true strength behind conflicts. The documentary offers a poignant exploration of social resistance, a theme that resonates deeply in the context of the ongoing conflict[4].

The round table discussion for the documentary is being moderated by Martin Balucha, correspondent of Czech Radio in France. The discussion includes H.E. Jaroslav Kurfüst, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to France and Monaco, Jacques Rupnik, Research Professor Emeritus at CERI and Professor at Sciences Po Paris, Martin Dorazin, and Oleg Tchachenko, founder of the Refugee Center for refugees from Donetsk.

The screening is co-organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic, the Embassy of Ukraine, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, the Member State presiding over the Council of the European Union, and the School of Public Affairs at Sciences Po Paris. The event aims to commemorate the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine[5].

In February 2023, Martin Dorazin was awarded the Ferdinand Peroutka Prize for his journalistic work. In the summer of 2024, he was nominated by the Czech Chamber of Deputies to receive the Order of the White Lion[6].

This event promises to be a powerful and moving experience, offering a rare glimpse into the life of a war correspondent and the impact of war on ordinary people. Don't miss this opportunity to witness the resilience of humanity in the face of adversity.
