Ski Courses in Saxony-Anhalt: CDU Ends Dispute with Education Minister

Torpedo that tension! The CDU has put an end to their internal debate - winter sports outings for students in Saxony-Anhalt are still feasible. Minister President Reiner Haseloff (CDU) announced this after the CDU faction meeting in Magdeburg. "The decree ensures resources are assessed to prevent lesson cancellations," Haseloff declared, labeling the decision a "reasonable compromise."

Prior to this, a heated discussion ensued among key CDU politicians in the state chancellery. Education Minister Eva Feußner faced criticism for her proposal to scrap ski courses as part of gym class for the upcoming school year.

Feußner: "No Comment"

"The decision to eliminate school ski compact courses for the future was based on budgetary, manpower, and organizational factors," the Ministry of Education explained last week. With a shortage of teachers, schools are urged to focus on essential lessons and minimize cancellations.

Feußner provided no statement following the faction meeting. As she walked out of the meeting room, the minister merely said: "Everything is fine."

Education and CDU representatives will gather later to discuss more matters, faction leader Guido Heuer announced. The timely resolution of the teachers' overtime payment, which has been on hold for some time, is also a priority.

CDU members of parliament have been voicing complaints against Feußner, arguing she acts without coordination with the minister. Already a few weeks ago, the faction rejected Feußner's plan to raise the minimum number of students in Halle, Magdeburg, and Dessau-Roßlau.
