David Ams, Chemist & Education Advocate, Runs for APS School Board

David Ams, a 48-year-old Democrat, is running for the APS school board. Ams, currently serving as PTA President and an education advocate, believes the district is not doing enough to comply with the 2018 Yazzie/Martinez ruling and close achievement gaps.

Ams, who holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry and a B.S. in Geology, is a chemist in the nuclear field with experience managing multi-million-dollar federal research budgets and teams. He sees the primary role of a school board member as setting clear goals, overseeing the superintendent, ensuring smart spending, and representing families in every decision.

Ams plans to focus on early literacy and math instruction to tackle student achievement, the biggest issue APS faces. He also aims to review the student cell phone use policy, balancing safety with student needs. Notably, Ams opposes school vouchers, advocating for public dollars to remain in public schools.

David Ams brings his experience in budget oversight and education advocacy to the APS school board race. If elected, he plans to drive improvements in student achievement, review cell phone policies, and ensure public funds benefit public schools.
