Dennis Chew plans to depart from his full-time DJ role once he begins studies at NUS next academic year
Dennis Chew, a popular radio personality at Love 972, has an unexpected twist in his career path. After graduating from Ngee Ann Poly with a diploma in Chinese Media & Communication, he was offered a spot to enroll at the National University of Singapore (NUS). However, due to unfinished work and jobs lined up until December, he has decided to defer his matriculation until August 2026.
Initially, Dennis took on additional gigs as he wasn't expecting to be accepted by NUS. He has been working full-time at radio prior to this plan and will continue to do so until December this year to financially sustain himself during this period. Once he starts university, he intends to temporarily give up his full-time job and focus on his studies, cutting down on expenses such as gifts for others.
Dennis plans to put his showbiz career aside once school starts, focusing instead on his academic pursuits. He expects that his finances will remain manageable even when he starts university, with his main discretionary spending being on overseas travel. To make additional income during his university studies, he plans to take on less time-consuming jobs, such as endorsements.
Despite his busy schedule, Dennis enjoys the freedom from work-related concerns during school breaks. He doesn't anticipate making significant changes to his lifestyle, as he isn't a frequent spender. His expenses mainly consist of food, treating others to meals, buying gifts, and buying toys. However, he is unwilling to compromise on going on holidays during his university studies.
Dennis believes that university life will be very different from poly and is making a decision to temporarily give up his full-time job to focus on school, acknowledging that he can't multi-task. He was initially unsure about starting university this year but is now excited about the opportunity to further his education.
