Dennis Daellenbach Appointed as Director of Gerald R. Ford Library and Museum, as Announced in a Press Release on November 30, 2000
Dennis A. Daellenbach, a renowned scholar in U.S. diplomatic history, has been appointed as the new director of the Gerald R. Ford Library and Museum. The announcement was made by the Archivist of the United States, John W. Carlin.
Mr. Daellenbach holds a Ph.D. in U.S. diplomatic history from Kansas University, obtained in 1982. His extensive academic background and long-standing experience in the Presidential Library system make him a perfect fit for this role.
The Gerald R. Ford Library, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the Museum, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, are under the administration of the National Archives and Records Administration. These institutions house a wealth of historical materials documenting President Ford's tenure as Congressman, Vice President, and President.
The Ford historical materials in the Library and Museum include over 21 million pages of official and personal papers, 326,000 photographs, and 8,000 Presidential gifts.
Mr. Daellenbach's career in the Presidential Library system spans 28 years. He began his journey at the Eisenhower Library from 1972 to 1977, followed by a tenure at the Ford Library from 1977 to 1991. Since 1991, he has been at the Reagan Library, where he currently serves as the Assistant Director, overseeing the administration and facility management for the library.
In his previous roles, Mr. Daellenbach has initiated educational programming, established liaisons with educational institutions, and presented papers on various archival subjects at professional meetings across the country. He has also taught at Kansas University, Henry Ford Community College, and the University of Michigan.
Archivist Carlin stated that Mr. Daellenbach is uniquely qualified to continue reaching out to the communities served by the Ford Library and Museum due to his extensive archival experience and knowledge of the Ford Presidency.
