DGB Warns of Rising Violence Against Public Sector Workers in Baden-Württemberg

The DGB Baden-Württemberg has raised alarm over escalating violence against public sector employees, calling for enhanced protection and respect. The issue was brought to the fore with the opening of the 'Never Forget, Here a Human Being is Working' exhibition in Stuttgart on October 1, 2025, a first for Baden-Württemberg.

Deputy Minister President and Minister of Interior Thomas Strobl inaugurated the exhibition, which runs until October 23, 2025. Hosted by the Ministry of the Interior, for Digitalization and Municipalities, it is an initiative of the DGB and its eight member trade unions. The exhibition features 32 motifs, each telling a story of a public sector employee who has been assaulted.

In 2024, over 14,000 attacks were reported against police officers, around 300 against firefighters and rescue workers, and over 1,600 acts of violence against other public sector employees. The DGB emphasizes that such attacks are not just against individuals but against society, rule of law, and democracy itself.

The 'Never Forget, Here a Human Being is Working' exhibition, a collaboration between the DGB, Landeszentrale für politische Bildung Baden-Württemberg, and Gedenkstätte für NS-Opfer in Baden-Württemberg, serves as a stark reminder of the growing threat to public sector employees. It underscores the urgent need for better protection and respect for those who serve and protect our communities.
