In Dortmund, the Christopher Street Day (CSD) serves as a beacon of joy and exuberance for the queer community, offering a much-needed sense of majority for at least one day. This year, the CSD takes place on August 16, 2025, and SLADO e.V., the organization behind the event, is working tirelessly to make it a day of celebration, advocacy, and progress.

SLADO e.V. is not just about visibility; they are political advocates, fighting for legal equality, combating hate crimes, and promoting intersectional solidarity with other marginalized communities. Their objectives extend beyond the CSD, aiming to address structural inequalities and ensure anti-discrimination protections in various aspects of public and private life.

Progress in Dortmund for the LGBTQ+ community has been evident. Public awareness and acceptance of LGBTQ+ issues have grown, with increasing participation in CSD events. Political recognition of LGBTQ+ rights can be seen in local policies, and city authorities have become more vocal in their support. LGBTQ+ friendly spaces and resources have been established, and efforts have been made to engage with schools and educational institutions to promote understanding and prevent bullying.

However, challenges remain. Discrimination and hate crimes persist, and full legal equality and protections have yet to be achieved due to political resistance. Social exclusion and marginalization still affect parts of the community, and limited resources and funding for LGBTQ+ initiatives sometimes impede comprehensive progress.

SLADO e.V. is committed to addressing these ongoing issues. The CSD aims to make queer people more visible and fight for their rights. The action plan for queer rights needs more resources and better financing, with only 30,000 planned from 2027. The sunrise, a part of the CSD, offers open meeting opportunities, workshops, and counseling services for queer youth and professionals.

Topics to be addressed at the CSD include safety and protection from violence, the Self-Determination Act, and the situation of rainbow families. The sunrise also focuses on issues like mental health, coming out, and queer education for youth. SLADO encourages participants to come, be loud, have fun, and look out for themselves during the CSD.

SLADO welcomes suggestions for topics to be addressed at the CSD and is not providing a platform for large corporations. They aim to present political demands to parties at the CSD and work openly and communally with politics for queer topics. SLADO's goals for the CSD in Dortmund include addressing ongoing issues and advocating for queer rights.

Dortmund has made recognizable progress in queer rights, but there are still concerns about state intervention in private life. Despite these concerns, the last few years have given reason to be optimistic about KCR's future. KCR is one of the largest initiatives in terms of the range of offers for the queer community.

Paul Klammer, managing director of SLADO, discusses the CSD and related topics, emphasizing the importance of visibility, political action, and community engagement. SLADO also aims to expand the sunrise to cover the entire demand of queer youth.

In conclusion, the CSD in Dortmund is more than just a celebration; it's a platform for advocacy, a call for equality, and a day for the queer community to come together and be visible. Whether queer or not, SLADO invites everyone to participate and enjoy the day at the CSD.
