Dubai's Early Childhood Education Sector Booms with 29,600 Children and 312 Centres

Dubai's early childhood education sector has witnessed significant growth and expansion, with over 29,600 children now enrolled in private centres. This marks an eight per cent increase from the previous year, as reported by Dr. Amna Almaazmi, CEO of Growth and Human Development at the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

The sector's expansion includes the opening of 38 new centres this year, bringing the total to 312. These centres cater to children from birth to six years old, including over 2,400 Emirati children. The increased capacity has eased pressure and provided greater choice for families. Notably, some existing centres have expanded their age provision to accept younger children.

The diversity of Dubai's early childhood centres is evident in the nationalities of its students, with 163 different nationalities represented. Indian, British, and Emirati students make up the largest groups. Parents can choose from 17 different curricula, with the UK's Early Years Foundation Stage being the most widely offered. High-quality early childhood education is recognised as crucial for preparing children for school and for life.

The sector's growth is also reflected in its workforce, which now comprises over 2,500 teachers and 2,600 teaching assistants. Al Freej Nurseries, serving Emirati children, opened in partnership with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), aiming to instil Islamic values and Emirati heritage in young learners.

The continued attractiveness and expansion of Dubai's early childhood sector highlight its commitment to providing high-quality education and care for the emirate's youngest residents. With over 312 centres now available, offering a range of curricula and catering to diverse nationalities, parents have more choices than ever before.
