Durham Alumni Shine in Study UK Alumni Awards 2023

Durham alumni have made a strong showing in the prestigious Study UK Alumni Awards 2023, with six finalists announced. The awards celebrate the achievements of UK higher education alumni worldwide, with ten Durham graduates shortlisted this year.

In the Culture and Creativity category, Chris Boyd, a writer and filmmaker from California, and Eithar Alangari, Vice President of Applied Programmes at Shaqra University in Saudi Arabia, represent the USA and Saudi Arabia respectively as finalists. Boyd is based in California, while Alangari works at a prestigious university in Saudi Arabia.

From India, Sugandha Yadav, an advocate at the Supreme Court, has won the Social Action category and is a global finalist. In the USA, Iynna Halilou, an early-stage tech investor at Moxxie Ventures, also won the Business and Innovation category and is a global finalist. Halilou's victory highlights the impact of UK higher education on the tech industry. Meanwhile, Philippe De Raet, a business executive for Anglepoint, is a finalist in the same category.

In the Science and Sustainability category, Sakib Anim, an Associate Professor in Economics at North South University, Bangladesh, is a finalist. Notably, none of the six Durham alumni finalists won in this category, with Ms. Adaku Ufere, an alumna of the University of Aberdeen, being the known winner from Ghana.

The Study UK Alumni Awards celebrate the achievements of UK alumni worldwide, with this year's finalists demonstrating the impact of a UK higher education across various fields. Durham alumni have shone in the Culture and Creativity, Business and Innovation, and Science and Sustainability categories, with winners and finalists set to benefit from increased PR and international celebration.
