Economy expert Waqar Masood Khan unfortunately passes away.
Dr. Waqar Masood, a renowned economist and a seasoned government official, passed away on Saturday. His demise has left a significant void in the financial and political circles of Pakistan.
In his illustrious career, Dr. Masood served in various high-profile positions. He was a member of the Boards of Directors for the Islamic Development Bank, the State Bank of Pakistan, the National Bank of Pakistan, and the Asian Development Bank. He also represented Pakistan as the alternate Governor in the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the Asian Development Bank.
Dr. Masood's tenure in the government saw him holding key positions such as Secretary Petroleum & Natural Resources, Secretary Economic Affairs Division, Secretary Textile Industry, and Secretary Finance Division. He also served as Special Secretary to the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his grief over the loss and remembered Dr. Masood's services to the government of Pakistan. In a statement on Saturday, the Prime Minister said, "Late Dr Waqar Masood's services to the government of Pakistan will always be remembered." He added, "May Allah Almighty grant the deceased a place in Paradise, Amen."
Apart from his government positions, Dr. Masood was an eminent author. He authored two books on eliminating Riba (interest) from the economy. He was also a regular contributor to the Business Recorder.
The Prime Minister further stated that Dr. Masood's contributions to the nation will never be forgotten. "Dr. Waqar Masood was an eminent economist and a dedicated public servant," he said.
Dr. Waqar Masood had a wide-ranging experience in both the public and private sectors. His career spanned several decades, and he left an indelible mark on the financial and economic landscape of Pakistan.
In recognition of his services, the government of Pakistan has announced a state funeral for Dr. Waqar Masood. His passing is a great loss to the nation, and he will be deeply missed by his colleagues, friends, and family.
