Enhanced school safety: City police strengthen school security measures
In a bid to ensure the safety of children during morning drop-offs, the Wiesbaden city police have initiated and aim to expand continuous intensified controls and measures around primary schools. This move is part of the ongoing "Safe to School" project, which has been in operation for several years.
Peter Erkel, head of the city police department at the traffic and city police office, has emphasized the importance of cooperation with parents, teachers, and children to ensure safe school routes. He points out that morning drop-offs pose a significant danger due to turning maneuvers, heavy traffic, and haste.
The first phase of this operation involves creating a situation picture at individual schools to identify chaotic areas, frequent situations, and areas needing action. Police officers have been present at various elementary schools for three weeks, observing morning traffic and engaging with parents. Warnings have been issued where necessary during their presence at the schools.
The traffic management department, in conjunction with the state police, has also been conducting speed checks around schools. Out of 16,437 vehicles measured, 575 were found to be speeding.
The city police aims to use its experiences to permanently improve traffic safety at schools. The goals include working towards consistent efforts and close cooperation with schools and parents for lasting changes. All road users must consider each other and avoid danger zones, according to Erkel.
Further steps will be coordinated with schools and parent representatives, and joint measures will be developed based on the situation picture. The city police strives to expand and stabilize the enhanced controls and measures around Wiesbaden's elementary schools.
The city police also encourages citizens to contact the responsible department or office with any questions. For more information, the press release can be found on the press office website.
This press release was issued by the Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden. Many parents prefer to drive their children directly to the school building, leading to chaotic situations outside schools. The city police urges everyone to be mindful of the safety of children and to avoid such situations.
