Enhanced Training in Native Languages Empowers Micro-Businesses to Successfully Adopt Digital Technologies

In a significant stride towards India's digital transformation, various initiatives are underway to empower micro-entrepreneurs and preserve traditional craftsmanship. One such initiative is the Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII) project, Digital Saksham, launched in partnership with Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth in 2021.

The project aims to augment and enrich the digital capabilities of businesses, particularly the micro enterprises, across the nation. To ensure maximum participation, training programs are provided in various regional languages such as Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, Punjabi, Malayalam, Odia, Marathi, Assamese, Kannada, and others.

In Mathura, the Digital Flavours project is contributing to the state's digital renaissance. Simultaneously, in Odisha, trainers are working with tribal micro-entrepreneurs, helping them understand they are Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and guiding them about state and central government schemes. This initiative is not just about digital literacy, but fostering a deeper understanding of the impact digital literacy has on personal and community development.

In Lucknow, the Digital Saree Emporium connects regional weavers with global audiences, while in Agra, the Digital Jewellery Atelier merges digital innovation with traditional craftsmanship. The Varanasi Digital Silk Route showcases the city's silk products worldwide, and the Digital Leathercraft initiative in Sonbhadra promotes traditional leather manufacturing globally.

These initiatives are not just about modernising traditional crafts but also about resolving geographical boundaries and integrating these micro-enterprises in the formal economy. The trainers support the entrepreneurs with Udyam Registration, enabling them to showcase their products on the Government e-marketplace and other digital platforms.

India, with an estimated 630.52 lakh micro enterprises, accounts for more than 99% of the total estimated number of 633.88 MSMEs. Project Digital Saksham is shaping a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive in the digital age by streamlining accessibility, interactivity, and community support.

Recently, Digital Saksham introduced Ms. Yamini Choudhary from Maharashtra to the GeM portal, helping her showcase her products on the government's platform. This initiative is not just about modernising traditional crafts but also about empowering individuals irrespective of their prior exposure to technology.

In Uttar Pradesh, Project Digital Saksham is preserving cultural heritage and promoting economic progress through the use of modern technology in traditional handicrafts. The project is organising training for micro-enterprises in 13 states and 55 clusters, contributing significantly to India's digital renaissance.
