Offenbach Prevention Day: A Day Dedicated to Community Safety and Empowerment
On September 19, the 15th Offenbach Prevention Day took place, bringing together over 30 organisations committed to promoting safety, prevention, and empowerment in the community. The event, held at the Ring Center, was opened by Councilor Paul-Gerhard Weiß and Marco Weller from the police.
The day was packed with interactive activities designed to educate and engage visitors. The decomposition of waste and the traffic safety association's braking and motorcycle simulator were popular attractions, offering hands-on experiences in waste management and road safety. The Waldhof addiction help center raised awareness about addiction dangers with a course using drunken goggles.
Several workshops were conducted for twelve school classes, focusing on topics such as gender identities, cultural challenges, and hate division. The German Red Cross's "HeRoes" conducted a workshop titled "Against oppression in the name of honor".
The White Ring, a violence prevention organization, called for civil courage and presented its work for victims of violence and crime. The municipal authority sensitized visitors to different forms of violence using a "violence barometer" and advertised the next "Seeing Violence - Helping" workshop in November.
New actors like Grandmas Against Rights and the Hanau Help made their debut at the event, joining established organisations like Caritas and DAK, who set up a wheelchair obstacle course on a bus. The city police presented a patrol car and informed about prevention measures against bicycle theft.
The Violence Prevention Network (VPN) and the Never Forget Adrian association were present for extremism prevention. The play "Meschugge" explored the division caused by hate during the Offenbach Prevention Day.
The event was filmed by the Open Channel Media Project, with the report set to be broadcast soon and made accessible in the media library. The special thanks went to the center management of the Ring Center for making the prevention day possible on its premises for the twelfth time.
The Offenbach Prevention Day served as a reminder of the importance of active commitment to democratic values, as emphasized by Councilor Paul-Gerhard Weiß. The day provided impressions of the day and highlighted the work of prevention organisations, aiming to create a safer and more inclusive community.
