Event at BHS Assures No Need for Concern

Buffalo High School (BHS) will be hosting its seventh annual safety event, 'The Main Event: The Right Road,' on Tuesday, September 16. This event, organized by Kate Harness with the local Main Event program, aims to educate sophomores and juniors on topics related to safety, substance use, mental health, and relationships.

Over 90 community volunteers and 200 students are expected to participate in the event, which will consist of seven stations focusing on various aspects of safety. One of the stations will feature a mock crash demonstration in the student parking lot, serving as a stark reminder of the consequences of choices students might face during high school.

Another station will focus on online and real-life safety, including predation and trafficking, while another will provide fire, medical, and first-responder education. The event will also cover drug awareness, driving safety, mental health, seat belt safety, and sexual consent education.

In an effort to make the learning experience as realistic as possible, the event will include a staged emergency response between 1:30 and 2:30. Participating in the event will be police, ambulance, fire, and LifeFlight helicopter responders. It's important to note that this staged emergency response is intended for instruction and is not a real emergency.

The community should not be alarmed if they see first-responders at BHS or come across the crash scene in the afternoon. The event is named 'The Main Event: The Right Road' and is scheduled for Tuesday, September 16, at Buffalo High School.

This safety event at BHS has been a valuable resource for students for the past seven years, providing them with essential knowledge and skills to navigate their way through high school safely and responsibly.
