Event taking place at the Natural History Museum: Open Exhibition

The Natural History Museum of Wyoming in Sheridan is set to host an Open House on August 6, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Located in the Mohns Center at Sheridan College, this esteemed institution is a hub for earth science enthusiasts, offering a wealth of exhibits that showcase the region's rich paleontological heritage.

The museum boasts a collection of dinosaur bones, many of which were discovered in the Sheridan/Buffalo area. One such exhibit is the Allosaurus, Caesar, on display at The Edward A. Whitney Academic Center at Sheridan College.

In addition to dinosaur skeletons, the museum offers a lapidary lap (a space for cutting and polishing stones) and a preparation lab, providing hands-on educational experiences and supporting scientific research related to geology and paleontology.

Tom Hebert, the museum's director since April, hopes these exhibits will encourage kids to develop an interest in earth sciences and consider careers in the field.

While the museum is undergoing a multi-phase development to expand its exhibits, the core paleontological collections remain a central feature, reflecting Wyoming’s important contributions to earth sciences.

Visitors to the Open House can expect refreshments to be served during the event, and everyone is invited to attend. The Open House is free for all attendees, and donations are appreciated.
