Expanding workforce: Nxera set to educate and recruit over 500 individuals for artificial intelligence-centered data centre jobs
Singtel's regional data centre arm, Nxera, is set to fill over 500 positions in Singapore for data centre-related and digital roles, as part of an ambitious talent development programme aimed at supporting the country's AI ambitions.
The initiative, announced at Nxera's inaugural Sustainable AI Data Centre Career Day during the SkillsFuture Festival 2025, focuses on training and hiring fresh graduates and mid-career professionals across various functions such as consultancy, design, engineering, operations, and sustainability.
Nxera's talent development initiatives are multi-pronged, offering multiple pathways including internships, graduate programmes, work-study degree programmes with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), and full-time roles. Approximately 40% of the roles to be filled are entry-level positions, a significant move given the global trend of reduced junior hiring in AI sectors.
The hiring is part of Nxera’s support for the TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) for ITE and Polytechnics Alliance (TIP Alliance), which strengthens employment outcomes for Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and polytechnic graduates and provides talent development pathways. Nxera collaborates with various partners, such as data centre design firms, construction, automation specialists, cooling technology, and equipment suppliers to provide comprehensive training and employment opportunities.
Nxera has partnerships with ITE, SIT, Temasek Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic, and Singapore Polytechnic to co-develop AI data centre-related courses, preparing students for industry demand. The aim aligns with Singapore’s goal to expand data centre capacity by more than one-third in the next few years, addressing the significant talent crunch amid regional data centre growth.
The Sustainable AI Data Centre Academy, created in collaboration with these institutes of higher learning, addresses the talent gap, particularly in new areas such as sustainability and high-density AI environments. This includes competency-based, stackable micro-credentials that align with the latest technologies and practices.
Nxera's 58MW sustainable AI-ready data centre, DC Tuas, in Singapore is set to begin operations in early 2026. DC Tuas will be one of the largest liquid-cooled AI data centres in Asia with high power and water efficiency. The data centre also aims to support customers in achieving their decarbonisation goals.
The recruitment and training initiatives reinforce Nxera's support for the TIP Alliance led by the Infocomm Media Development Authority. Nxera has also committed to upskilling all its employees in AI operations and sustainability through co-curated data centre courses with SIT, Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, and ITE. The company intends to make a full transition to renewable energy sources for its operations by 2028.
The Sustainable AI Data Centre Career Day brought together over 1,000 students, job seekers, and mid-career professionals, along with government agencies, institutes of higher learning, and industry leaders. The event was graced by Tan Kiat How, the senior Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information.
As the data centre industry continues to grow in Asia, addressing the ongoing talent crunch is increasingly urgent. Nxera's initiatives are a significant step towards building a skilled and resilient workforce for the future.
