Fundraising Efforts Accelerate for Big Horn Indoor Arena
The Big Horn community is one step closer to having a dedicated space for indoor sports and early learning, with the proposed Indoor Recreation and Early Learning Center (IRELC) set to be completed by 2027.
Currently, pre-schoolers in the Big Horn area are being taught in repurposed rooms inside Big Horn Elementary and Middle Schools. The new IRELC, if built, will offer a separate location for youngsters to learn, away from higher grades.
The facility, once completed, will be turned over to the Sheridan County School District #1 Recreation District. It will boast four designated classrooms designed specifically for pre-school programs, as well as an indoor turf area, basketball and volleyball courts, walking tracks, fitness and weight rooms, and a community hub.
The Big Horn Baseball Club has been leading the fundraising efforts for the new facility, having raised approximately 71% of the $6.5 million needed to build the IRELC. The facility will be located behind the Big Horn High School football field press box.
Organizers anticipate breaking ground on the new facility in either the winter or spring of next year. However, the exact groundbreaking and completion dates are yet to be announced. If you need the most current schedule details, it would be advisable to consult directly with the Big Horn Baseball Club or project organizers.
The IRELC will not only offer indoor facilities for sports such as basketball and volleyball, but also cater to the need for space for general activities and pre-school education in the Big Horn area. The new facility is needed due to the lack of space in the current schools.
Kendra Barney, the Early Childhood Coordinator for Sheridan County School District #1, is looking forward to the completion of the IRELC. "Having a dedicated space for our pre-school programs will provide a more conducive learning environment for our young learners," she said.
With the IRELC in the works, the Big Horn community can look forward to a state-of-the-art facility that will benefit both young learners and sports enthusiasts alike.
