Generous Gift of AED 33 Million Saves Lives: A 14-year-old Boy, Along With 59 Others, Receives a Second Chance

In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Al Jalila Foundation's "Your Donation Saves Lives" campaign has made a significant impact on the lives of many individuals in need of critical medical treatment. Since its launch in April 2021, the campaign has supported 60 organ transplant surgeries, including 53 kidney transplants and 7 liver transplants [1][2][3][4].

The campaign, which operates in partnership with Dubai Health and aligns with the UAE’s National Program for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation (HAYAT), has become a permanent initiative under the Foundation's A’awen program [1][2]. This ongoing support provides financial assistance for critical medical treatments across the UAE.

One of the beneficiaries of this life-changing campaign is 14-year-old Yousef Jashim, who received a successful kidney transplant with the support of Al Jalila Foundation [5]. After the surgery, Yousef regained his strength and no longer required dialysis. Another recipient, Roula Tabba'a, underwent a successful transplant after years of dialysis due to kidney failure [6]. Following the surgery, Roula no longer needed dialysis and regained her ability to move freely, travel, and live independently.

The campaign has also supported 24 children with kidney failure and 5 children with liver failure [1][2]. Dr Ashraf Al Hinnawi, Consultant Transplant Surgeon at Dubai Health, outlined the comprehensive process of evaluating both donors and recipients to ensure transplant success and safety [7].

Dr Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, expressed gratitude to the donors, living and deceased, and their families for their support and generosity [8]. He emphasized that the foundation continues to provide financial and medical support to 65 patients with organ failure as part of its long-term care initiative [9].

The "Your Donation Saves Lives" campaign was launched in partnership with Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, and Emarat Al Youm newspaper [10]. A'awen, under Al Jalila Foundation, continues to welcome donations from individuals and organizations to fund life-saving programs and extend vital medical care to those in need [11].

Roula Tabba'a expressed her deep gratitude to Al Jalila Foundation, saying its support not only saved her life, but also restored hope and stability for her entire family [6]. The campaign, now a permanent programme under A’awen, has provided over Dh33 million in support for organ transplant patients [12].
