A Notre Dame alumnus, Andrei Bărbulescu, has made a significant impact in the medical field, both through his heroic actions and impressive academic achievements.

Bărbulescu, who studied at Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College between 2017-2019, achieved an outstanding AAA in his A-levels. His time at the college laid the foundation for his future success, providing him with the opportunity to study his favourite subjects.

In 2020, Bărbulescu's heroism was recognised when he provided emergency care to a cyclist who had collapsed. His quick thinking and actions, which included giving CPR, saved the cyclist's life. For his actions, he was recognised by the Romanian Ambassador to Italy.

After leaving Notre Dame, Bărbulescu continued his studies at the University of Milano-Bicocca, where he graduated with an incredibly impressive mark of 105 out of 110, to be awarded a First Class Honours. The University of Milano-Bicocca is ranked 5th nationally in Italy in the medical field, recognised for its academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and strong international outlook in medicine.

Bărbulescu's research on medications used in acute heart failure and ventricular-arterial coupling may significantly influence future therapeutic strategies for critically ill patients. His thesis, titled 'Impact of Vasodilators and Inotropes on Left and Right Ventricular-Arterial Coupling in Patients with Acute Heart Failure', is a testament to his dedication and passion for medical research.
