Grassroots Democracy Coalition Kicks Off 2025 Local Elections Effort, Emphasizing Youth Engagement

In the city of Lünen, a significant campaign has been launched to encourage democratic engagement and promote social cohesion. The 'Partnership for Democracy Lünen' is spearheading this initiative, which is part of the nationwide network of over 300 local partnerships under the federal program 'Democracy lives!'.

Funded by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, the goal of this program is to strengthen democratic engagement at the local level, foster social cohesion, and prevent extremism. The city administration's 'Integrated Social Planning & Participation' team is leading the partnership in Lünen.

The campaign, which is non-partisan in nature, aims to raise awareness about the local election scheduled for September 14. As part of this effort, a city-wide poster campaign was launched on August 28, 2025. The posters, currently on display throughout the city, including at schools and youth facilities, are designed to engage young people, particularly those aged 16 and above who are eligible to vote in the upcoming election.

Stefan Wrazidlo from the AWO district office Ruhr-Lippe-Ems is overseeing the coordination and specialist office for the city-wide poster campaign in Lünen. He is supported by the 'Partnership for Democracy Lünen', with Alexandra Schulz leading the coordination and specialist service.

Two newly developed poster designs are being used in the campaign, each designed to resonate with young people and encourage them to share their perspectives and concerns. The campaign is an important step towards ensuring that the voices of Lünen's youth are heard and valued in the democratic process.

The partnership in Lünen accompanies project ideas, connects actors, and advises on funding opportunities. By fostering a culture of democratic engagement and social cohesion, the city hopes to create a more inclusive and vibrant community for all its residents. The campaign in Lünen is a testament to the city's commitment to democracy and its residents' active participation in shaping their future.
