"Gutenberg School Pupils' Triumph: A Blend of Stop-Motion Animation and Real Emotion in a Media Film Production"
In a remarkable display of creativity and teamwork, a group of 30 sundance from the Gutenberg School Leipzig's design class have produced an innovative mixed-media film titled "STOP. Motion. Emotion." The project was led by Philipp Gübler, with the artistic direction shared by René Blümel and Hannah Sieben.
Hannah Sieben, a versatile artist with a rich background in cultural studies, theater studies, ethnology, and fine arts/media arts, moved to Leipzig in 2002 and has since been an integral part of the city's artistic community. René Blümel, who studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig in the Media Art department and graduated in 2003, brings his expertise in cinema technology, presentation, and digitization to the table.
The film, created in a short span of a few days, is a unique blend of interview sequences, stop-motion films, quotes, thoughts, and sounds. Its aesthetics resemble a collage, reflecting the complexities of inner emotional worlds. The purpose of the film is to highlight the boundaries of the sundance, exploring their personal boundaries in a thought-provoking and engaging manner.
Hannah Sieben's interests extend beyond her artistic pursuits, with a particular focus on the initiation of communication through art. This has led her to implement artistic mediation projects with children and young people, a passion she has carried with her throughout her career. She currently works as an artist at the intersection of intermedial, context-based, and documentary work.
René Blümel, on the other hand, has worked self-employed in various areas of the media industry after graduation. Today, he serves as a leading technician/project manager at DOK Leipzig.
Project management for the film was handled by Ines Aumüller and Katharina Rosenberger. The film was produced by students from the 11th grade (school year 2024/25) of the Gutenberg School, a Vocational Training Center of the City of Leipzig and a Design Upper Secondary School located in the East Center.
In summary, "STOP. Motion. Emotion." is a testament to the potential of young sundance and the power of collaboration. It serves as a platform for students to express their emotions and push their creative boundaries, all under the guidance of experienced artists and educators.
