Hitachi Energy Expands Quebec, Thailand Plants to Meet Growing Grid Demand

Hitachi Energy, the corporate division of Hitachi, is investing CAD 270 million to expand its large power transformer manufacturing capacity in Varennes, Quebec. Simultaneously, it is investing THB 455 million (USD 14 million) to expand its transformers factory in Samutprakarn, Thailand. These expansions aim to strengthen operations and meet growing demand for mission-critical grid equipment.

The Varennes expansion, led by Hitachi Energy, will see the implementation of upgraded fire detection and suppression systems, enhancing safety and control in the work environment. The new facility in Samutprakarn will feature dedicated zones for final assembly and testing, promoting better organization, clearer task separation, and safer working conditions. Both expansions will incorporate the latest technology and work environment standards, advancing sustainability and safety efforts.

The Samutprakarn factory expansion will optimize production line layout, reduce congestion, and improve overall material handling. This will enable faster delivery times, supporting urgent demand for grid equipment. The expansions are part of the company's $9 billion global investment program to increase the supply of transformers and grid solutions. The Thai expansion is expected to boost the factory's production capacity by 60 percent, with the upgraded power transformer test lab meeting growing demand for large power transformers.

Hitachi Energy's investments in Varennes and Samutprakarn demonstrate its commitment to strengthening operations in Quebec and Thailand. These expansions will enhance safety, sustainability, and efficiency, supporting the energy transition in the region and globally.
