How to proceed: Ranking of universities in Krasnoyarsk
New university rankings for Russia, including Krasnoyarsk, have been published recently. As in the previous year, only three universities in Krasnoyarsk are mentioned, with two of them ranking in the top 2 positions. The Siberian Federal University (SFU) receives the most attention for offering degrees in numerous specialties.
The rankings were compiled by RAEX, an agency that has been involved in the creation of university rankings since the 4th edition. In total, 166 universities from 40 regions across the country were included in the rankings based on objective data rather than subjective surveys.
Factors considered for the subject rankings included data from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, student professional competitions, media monitoring and analysis systems, bibliometric data providers, and more. They looked at the number of students, the number of students successfully defending their dissertations, the revenue from scientific research, the university's contribution to human resource development, and many other factors. The rankings take into account three main missions of each university: educational, scientific, and social.
In 13 of the 35 subject areas, the Moscow State University (MGU) leads the way, with 20 top-three placements. The St. Petersburg State University and the Higher School of Economics (HSE) follow closely behind with 12 and 13 top-three placements respectively.
It is evident that Moscow and St. Petersburg perform the best, with many top universities located in these cities. There are also many top universities in Tatarstan, Rostov-on-Don, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, and Saratov.
Three universities from Krasnoyarsk are featured in all the rankings: SFU, which made it into 19 out of 35 subject lists, Krasnoyarsk State Medical University (KrasGМУ) with 2 placements, and Siberian State University of Science and Technology (SibGUT) with 1 placement. The lists typically feature 20 places.
The highest position for the Siberian Federal University is in the fields of "Energy, Energy Engineering, and Electrical Engineering" (7th in Russia) as well as "Petroleum and Gas Engineering" (8th) and "Chemical Technologies" (9th).

Krasnoyarsk State Medical University is mentioned twice, with 16th place in Pharmacy and 20th place in Medicine.
The Siberian State University of Science and Technology is mentioned once, coming in 15th place in Aerospace and Rocketry Technologies.
Notable areas in which Krasnoyarsk-region universities did not make the top 20 include biotechnology, veterinary medicine, geography, shipbuilding, linguistics and languages, law, psychology, agriculture, sociology, light industry technologies, physics, philology, and journalism, nuclear energy. However, these fields are well represented in the region.
So, obtaining an education in the aforementioned professions may be more advantageous in the capital cities or neighboring Siberian cities like Novosibirsk and Tomsk.
However, these rankings are not the only available ones.
