IIIT-Allahabad marks its 27th anniversary of establishment
The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT-A) marked its 27th Foundation Day on August 12, 2025, with a series of significant announcements and celebrations. The day was filled with a sense of renewed commitment and vision for the institution's future.
The event kicked off with a tree plantation drive, symbolising growth and development, followed by an inaugural lamp lighting ceremony. Professor Mukul Sharad Sutaone, the director of IIIT-A, initiated the proceedings.
During the course of the day, Professor Shekhar Verma, the dean of IPR, looked back at the institute's 26 years of progress and achievements. He highlighted the institute's journey so far, emphasising its significant contributions to the field of information technology.
Professor Sutaone then spoke about the need to shape the future with vision and careful planning. He introduced the Institute Development Plan (IDP), which focuses on five key areas for the institute's growth and global recognition. The plan includes expanding academic, residential, and environmental infrastructure, as well as creating a multi-faceted research park aimed at incubation, innovation, and leadership development.
The research park is designed to position IIIT-A as a leader in academic excellence, research innovation, and global collaboration. This initiative is expected to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the institute.
Inspirational guest lectures were delivered by Prof AK Tripathi (IIT BHU) and Swami Achyuta Mohan Das from ISKCON. Their motivational talks added a thought-provoking dimension to the day's events.
Cultural events were not left behind. A Kavi Sammelan (poetry session) was held in the evening, adding a cultural touch to the celebrations. Famous poets such as Vishnu Saxena, Shabeena Adeeb, Dinesh Diggaj, Deepak Danadan, Abhay Nirbheek, and Shailendra Madhur performed, their verses met with loud applause and appreciation from the audience.
Professor Pawan Chakraborty, the dean of Student Welfare, spoke about the recent successes of the students. His speech was a testament to the institute's focus on nurturing talent and fostering a conducive learning environment.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by registrar prof Mandar Subhash Karyakarte. As the day drew to a close, it was clear that IIIT-A was not just celebrating its past, but also looking forward to a future filled with promise and potential.
