In Grosseto, 9 additional students have earned their degrees from the 'Iron and Fire' program.
In the picturesque town of Grosseto, the 'Ferro e Fuoco: l'Arte del Maniscalco' training course concluded on September 5, 2025. This unique course, specializing in the role of the Farrier, focused on equine and bovine hoof trimming, shoeing, and forging horseshoes.
Organized by Pitagora srl Training Centre, the course ran from October 2024 to June 2025. Knight Martucci, a strong advocate for the course, emphasized at the beginning of the programme that it aimed to provide training opportunities to become farriers.
Throughout the training period, Knight Martucci played a significant role in assisting and teaching students, while renowned farrier Loriano Bargagli served as the course tutor. Stefano Manocchio, a veterinarian, and Renzo Dragoni, owner of the Banditella farm, were also part of the commission.
The course was offered free of charge, which Knight Martucci noted as a real added value. He also highlighted the importance of studying podiatry and understanding equine foot function in the course. The course awards a level III qualification in the European Qualifications Framework, making it specific to the Tuscany Region's official registry of professional figures.
Nine participants from various parts of Italy qualified from the final exam of the course. The qualification earned in this course is specific to the Tuscany Region's official registry of professional figures, ensuring a high standard of expertise for those who complete it.
Knight Martucci also mentioned the significance of learning about different types of shoes for horses in the course. This knowledge will undoubtedly prove invaluable for the newly qualified farriers as they embark on their careers.
