Indian Poultry Industry to Drive UN SDGs at CII Conference

The Indian poultry industry, now a major commercial sector, is set to contribute to several United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is hosting a conference on March 21, 2022, to discuss the sector's growth and challenges.

India exported 2,55,686.92 MT of poultry products worth 58.70 USD million in 2020-21, with key destinations including Oman, Maldives, Indonesia, and Vietnam. This growth is driven by changes in lifestyles and eating habits, favouring low-fat, high-protein diets. However, the industry faces challenges such as disease outbreaks, skilled manpower shortages, increased antibiotic use, and feed price fluctuations.

Empowering village communities can establish a cost-competitive farming system, improving the entire supply chain's cost economics. The industry plays a significant role in providing food, sustainable livestock development, and livelihood security for millions of people, transforming from a backyard activity to a major commercial sector in the last two decades. India is now the world's fifth largest egg producer and eighteenth largest producer of broilers, with a total poultry population of 851.81 million.

The CII conference on Poultry & Poultry Products on 21st March 2022 aims to discuss key drivers and challenges in the sector. To participate, registration is required at the provided link. The industry's contribution to sustainable development goals is expected to be a key topic of discussion.
