2025 Kentucky History and Genealogy Conference Announced
The Kenton County Public Library is excited to announce the 2025 Kentucky History and Genealogy Conference, taking place on August 8 and 9 at the Erlanger Branch (401 Kenton Lands Road, Erlanger, KY). Pre-conference activities will be held on August 7 at the Covington Branch (502 Scott Boulevard).
This comprehensive event is designed for historians, genealogists, researchers, and enthusiasts alike. The conference features over 20 engaging sessions, a keynote address by Dave Schroeder, and a vendor hall with more than 25 local and state organizations.
Thursday, August 7 (Covington Branch):
Pre-conference activities include a 1 p.m. Explore Historic Northern Kentucky Bus Tour and a 5–9 p.m. Local History & Genealogy Open House with guided tours and research opportunities.
Friday, August 8 (Erlanger Branch):
The conference kicks off with a keynote address by Dave Schroeder, Executive Director of the Kenton County Public Library, titled "Where Goetta Meets Grits: Defining Northern Kentucky." Sessions throughout the day will delve into topics such as archives, tracing roots through Kentucky and American history, George Graham Vest, and stories of emancipation.
Saturday, August 9 (Erlanger Branch):
The conference day begins with registration and the opening of the vendor hall at 9 a.m. The day continues with sessions exploring German heritage, Black cemeteries, Kentucky slave registers, yearbooks, and Kentucky's linguistic traditions. The conference will culminate with a session on "Kentucky Land Patents: A Valuable Resource for Genealogists and Historians" by Travis Horn.
The vendor hall will remain open throughout the day, with refreshments provided. Notable participants include the African American Genealogy Group of Kentucky, Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives, Kentucky Historical Society, and various county historical societies.
