Kirchheim unter Teck Pioneers School Zone for Safer Learning
Kirchheim unter Teck has become one of the first municipalities in the region to successfully implement a school zone, a move that aims to enhance safety and create more space for students. The initiative was supported by the Ministry of Transport and witnessed by Interior Minister Thomas Strobl and Transport Minister Winfried Hermann.
The school zone project in Kirchheim unter Teck was made possible by the Ministry of Transport's MOVERS advisory service, which provides clear legal guidelines and practical support for implementation. In August, the ministry enabled municipalities to set up school streets and school zones legally and easily.
Students were given the opportunity to present the results of their preparatory workshops to the ministers, demonstrating their involvement and understanding of the project. School streets and school zones are designed to create a safer environment, providing more space for movement, play, and social interaction, benefiting the entire school community. Additionally, these measures can help alleviate traffic congestion, allowing for a relaxed arrival and a quieter start to the school day. A demonstration was held on an example street in Kirchheim unter Teck to showcase how a school zone can work in practice.
The Landesprogramm MOVERS - Aktiv zur Schule supports schools in school route planning and implementation, with the ultimate goal of making the journey to school safer and more enjoyable for students. The ordinance 'Guidelines for the traffic and street law implementation of school streets and school zones' simplifies municipal planning, paving the way for more municipalities to follow Kirchheim unter Teck's example.
