Lübeck Police Conduct Large-Scale Emergency Exercise at César-Klein School

On September 13, 2025, the Police Directorate Lübeck organised a significant training exercise at the César-Klein School in Ratekau. Over 500 individuals, including police officers, special forces, teachers, and staff, participated in this exercise.

The exercise was designed to simulate a critical situation, with two threat scenarios developed by the Lübeck Police Directorate. The special forces of the State Criminal Police Office searched for an alleged armed perpetrator who had injured several people. The exercise included a simulated amok alarm and the overpowering of an armed perpetrator.

The cooperation between the police and the rescue service was emphasized, with the handover of injured persons to the secured area for treatment being a part of the exercise. Witnesses and uninjured persons were questioned in a structured manner as part of the exercise. Important criminal police investigations were carried out at the scene of the exercise.

Individual teachers and staff of the school volunteered to participate in their own roles. Care was provided as needed to the teachers and staff during the exercise. Bernd Olbrich, director of the police directorate of Lübeck, stated that the exercise was planned as realistically as possible to challenge the participants.

The organization involved in the training exercise, alongside the César-Klein School in Ratekau, included special units of the State Criminal Police Office Schleswig-Holstein and the Holstein Rescue Service. The Federal Police was also part of the exercise. The interfaces and communication between the uniformed police, criminal police, special forces, rescue service, and school staff were crucial during the exercise.

Bernd Olbrich thanked all participating police officers, emergency services, and school staff for their exceptional dedication. He also mentioned that the Police Directorate Lübeck will analyze and evaluate the experiences and results of the exercise in the coming weeks.
