Medical Education Postgraduate Matching System Prioritizes Student Selection

The Medical Education Commission (MEC) of Nepal has announced a priority setting process for the admission of candidates into postgraduate medical education programs. The announcement, published on October 12, 2077, applies to candidates who participated in the entrance examination held on September 18, 19, and 20, 2077.

The priority setting process is designed to ensure a transparent and meritocratic selection for MD/MS admissions. It involves a structured matching and priority system, where candidates are ranked based on specific criteria, such as entrance exam scores or other merit-based factors.

Candidates' priorities are then set according to their merit rank, preferences, and the availability of seats in the respective institutions and programs. This process is similar to matching systems used in other countries, such as the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS), which aims to place candidates in their top choices in a fair and equitable manner.

The admission process will be conducted via the MEC's web portal (

Detailed information about the priority setting for student selection can be found on the MEC's website (
