Method for Obtaining Course Completion Qualification

An innovative online course is designed to evaluate students' knowledge and skills through a variety of question formats, each designed to assess different levels of understanding. The course offers a range of question types, including multiple choice, true/false, dropdown, multiple answers, match & ordering, short text responses, fill in the blanks, open-ended assignments, bonus, and AI-enhanced questions.

Each question type comes with customizable grading rubrics that specify criteria and point values, ensuring detailed scoring and feedback. Some assessments include a system prompt combined with an exercise-specific prompt, which incorporates grading rubrics and examples to guide AI-augmented grading. This structure accommodates both automatic and manual grading for effective awarding of points and distinctions.

The course emphasizes clarity in question design, particularly for multiple-choice questions, to ensure students are evaluated on content knowledge rather than reading ability. Interactive elements from platforms like PrairieLearn allow responses in various formats, such as symbolic inputs, checkboxes, vector diagrams, code editor submissions, file uploads, and even image captures of handwritten work, broadening the ways students can demonstrate their learning.

In this course, open-ended answers usually earn 5-10 points, while multiple choice questions are graded instantly, with each correct answer earning 1-5 points. The "Top 10% Course Taker" and "Best in Class" distinctions will appear on your Course Certificate, which can be showcased on your LinkedIn profile and resume. To obtain a Course Certificate, students must achieve at least 70% of the course points.

The grading of open-ended answers may take up to 2-3 weeks, during which potential points are awarded (indicated by a dotted line in the course progress bar). Once the open-ended answers are graded, potential points are converted into the "real" points awarded by the instructor. Scoring full marks can lead to the "Best in Class" distinction, while scoring more than 70% of the course points can lead to the "Top 10% Course Taker" distinction (90% of total points).

The course consists of two types of questions: multiple choice and open-ended questions. Open-ended questions require full sentences or short paragraphs and will be graded by your instructor. The "Generate certificate" button appears on your course progress bar once you score at least 70% of the course points, and the generated certificate will appear on your profile page once it is ready.

In summary, this online course offers a versatile and structured question format to facilitate comprehensive assessment and the accumulation of points through well-defined grading rubrics and question types tailored to different learning activities and media.
