Michael J. Moody has been appointed as the new Institute Auditor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a position previously held by Deborah Fisher since 2000.
In his new role, Moody will be responsible for overseeing internal audits to evaluate the effectiveness of financial controls and operational procedures, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and external regulations, providing independent assessments to senior leadership and the board of trustees, and advising on risk management and governance matters.
Moody's extensive experience in audit, compliance, and financial sectors spans over 25 years. Prior to his appointment at MIT, he served as the director of compliance in the Office for Audit and Advisory Services at Northwestern University since 2004. His responsibilities as Institute Auditor include delivering audit services through a risk-based program, which assesses the safeguarding of assets, adequacy of internal controls, compliance with laws and regulations, and adherence to ethical practices.
Executive Vice President and Treasurer Israel Ruiz applauded Fisher for her exceptional leadership of the Audit Division and her reliable support of the Risk and Audit Committee of the MIT Corporation. Fisher vacated the Institute Auditor position to take up the new role of Institute Risk Officer at MIT on July 1.
Ruiz also praised Moody for his vast experience and expertise, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the Audit Division. Moody began his duties as the Institute Auditor at an unspecified institution on February 18.
