Monastic island of Reichenau is now home to miraculous benches, officially inaugurated

In a recent development, Minister Nicole Razavi has inaugurated a series of new information units called "TrueWonderBenches" at seven UNESCO World Heritage sites in the region of Baden-Württemberg. These sites include the Cistercian Monastery Maulbronn, Klosterinsel Reichenau, Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes, Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps, Le Corbusier Houses in the Stuttgart Weißenhofsiedlung, Cave and Ice Age Art of the Swabian Alb in the Ach and Lone Valley, and Baden-Baden under the title "Great Spa Towns of Europe."

The TrueWonderBenches are designed to be ideal places for conveying the World Heritage idea. They are equipped with maps, overview texts, specific site texts, and links to a film about the World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg. These information panels aim to promote awareness and knowledge about these significant cultural landmarks.

Professor Dr. Claus Wolf, President of the Landesamt für Denkmalpflege, emphasised the universal significance of UNESCO World Heritage sites for humanity. He reiterated that the seven World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg are distinguished by their exceptional universal value, authenticity, and uniqueness.

The TrueWonderBenches, part of the World Heritage Concept BW, can be set up in all World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg. Neighboring communities of a World Heritage site can submit a location proposal to the Landesamt für Denkmalpflege in the Regierungspräsidium Stuttgart for setting up these benches. The responsibility for the approval of the TrueWonderBenches locations in UNESCO World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg lies with the respective heritage conservation authorities of the state.

Dr. Wolfgang Zoll, Mayor of the community of Reichenau, expressed his pleasure about the first TrueWonderBenches being set up on the island of Reichenau. He praised the initiative for its potential to make the World Heritage sites more accessible to the public.

Minister Razavi stated that the seven World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg are a significant part of the cultural landscape. She added that the goal of the World Heritage Concept BW is to jointly preserve and connect the cultural and architectural heritage, making it more accessible to the public.

The World Heritage Concept BW is a concept by the state government to support the UNESCO World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg. Measures and products being developed under this concept include an image film, an exhibition, and a brochure.

For press inquiries and citizen representation, the contact details for the Ministry of Territorial Development and Housing are available online.

In conclusion, the introduction of the TrueWonderBenches is a significant step towards promoting awareness and knowledge about Baden-Württemberg's World Heritage sites. These benches, part of the World Heritage Concept BW, are expected to contribute significantly to the preservation and connection of the cultural and architectural heritage in the region.
