Netflix initiates a talent nurturing program in Taiwan

Netflix has announced the launch of a talent cultivation program in Taiwan, focusing on nurturing high-quality Mandarin content through practical training in scriptwriting and content production. This initiative is part of Netflix's ongoing investment in the Taiwanese market, building on last year's Netflix Fund for Creative Equity that supports discovery of promising Mandarin-language projects.

The program, set to run from September 15, 2025, to February 13, 2026, consists of two main components.

Firstly, a five-month intensive scriptwriting training program, co-developed with local production company Yiyi Pictures. This initiative aims to cultivate scriptwriter-assistants by teaching trainees how to work in a writers' room environment, a collaborative style common in Western TV industries. The training covers practical skills in scriptwriting, pitching, and understanding the content production industry. Interested individuals can sign up for the program on the Netflix website until July 24 at midnight.

Secondly, a Film and Television Production Trainee Course, in partnership with Taiwan's Film and Television Production Association. This course provides training on working within Netflix's culture and hands-on experience through apprenticeships on actual productions. Although the two-day course (July 24 and 25) is scheduled, the duration of internships with film crews will depend on the availability of partner crews and their projects. Applications for this component are open until midnight July 13, 2025.

The aim of these programs is to create a sustainable ecosystem for content creators in Taiwan, enabling professional growth and supporting the expansion of diverse Mandarin content for Netflix. Netflix’s Chinese language content head, Maya Huang, emphasized the program’s role in systematically cultivating skilled and creative Taiwanese film and television talents.

This news marks a significant step in Netflix's commitment to fostering local talent and creating a vibrant content ecosystem in Taiwan. The company's continued investment in the region reflects its dedication to discovering and nurturing promising Chinese-language projects, further enriching its global content library.
