OpenAI Aims to Certify 10 Million Americans in AI Skills by 2030

OpenAI has revealed ambitious plans to expand its educational and professional platforms, aiming to certify 10 million Americans in AI skills by 2030. The company, led by CEO Sam Altman, is also set to launch a recruiting platform and a browser, directly competing with LinkedIn in the process.

OpenAI Academy, the company's educational arm, is expanding to offer official certifications. These will be supported by partner companies like Walmart, which is committed to training its employees in AI-compatible skills. The US CEO of Walmart, John Furner, emphasised the importance of empowering employees with AI knowledge for the future of retail.

OpenAI's new recruiting platform, OpenAI Jobs Platform, is set to launch mid-2026. This platform aims to connect AI-driven companies with relevant talent more quickly, directly competing with LinkedIn. LinkedIn, however, is also scaling AI in recruiting, with tools like the Hiring Assistant and context-based AI search.

The certifications will be earned through learning and testing directly in ChatGPT, making the process more accessible. OpenAI's new initiatives are part of a broader US strategy to promote AI competencies, usable by large corporations, smaller companies, and local authorities.
