Nordhorn Hosts Successful "North Business Day" for Training Initiative

In the heart of Nordhorn, the annual "North Business Day" of the Training Initiative took place recently, attracting over 35 representatives from member companies across North Germany. The city, a member since 2012, welcomed the guests at the municipal building yard on Enschedestraße.

Mayor Thomas Berling, an active member of the Chamber of Agriculture's examination committee, welcomed the guests and opened the event. Reinhold Schnieders, trainer from the "Green" department of the city of Nordhorn, presented the training company and explained the training concept.

The Training Initiative, which promotes high quality standards in garden and landscape construction training companies for approximately eight years, was the main topic of discussion. The participants were impressed by the city of Nordhorn as an employer and its training concept.

One of the member companies present was Grütters GmbH from Sonsbeck, which recently received the "Taspo Award" in gardening circles. The Managing Director of Grütters GmbH, Josef Grütters, presented his company philosophy: "We serve customers who are enthusiastic about us with a team of entrepreneurial-minded and self-responsible employees."

Grütters stressed that money is not the best incentive for binding skilled workers: "You have to be able to let go, grant team members their own competencies, allow majority decisions. Being able to actively influence the success of the company - that creates lasting motivation and makes us an attractive employer."

The city of Nordhorn values training and offers a total of nine different vocational training opportunities. However, it is experiencing a decrease in interest in craft professions. The main topic of discussion was how to keep training companies attractive for young gardeners in the face of a skills shortage.

Trainer Reinhold Schnieders emphasized the importance of being passionate and dedicated as a trainer: "As a trainer, you have to be passionate and dedicated, and never stand still. You can always improve something, and this attitude also motivates the new starters."

The city of Nordhorn received many compliments for its well-designed and maintained green spaces. Despite the challenges, it remains committed to providing quality training and attracting skilled workers in the garden and landscape construction industry. The Training Initiative currently has 110 member companies throughout Germany, and Nordhorn continues to be a valuable contributor to this network.
