My Unexpected Journey

I've worked alongside some of the most brilliant security minds who lacked formal qualifications, yet their industry impact was undeniable.
I was a mediocre student, more interested in the great outdoors and team sports than academia. It wasn't until I joined the Metropolitan Police Service that a burning passion for learning ignited within me. I shined in my probationary exams, unlocking a treasure trove of courses and specialist roles. As I climbed the leadership ladder, my curiosity soared, propelling me to pursue further education.
Driven by discipline and curiosity, I earned a BSc in Policing, followed by a postgraduate Research MSc. These educational milestones were pivotal steps in my professional journey, not just for the knowledge gained but for the tough-as-nails supervisors who challenged me to reach new heights.
Post-policing, I continued to educate myself, securing qualifications in risk and security management, information security, counterterrorism, and more.
The CSyP Registration Process
I joined the Security Institute over a decade ago out of curiosity, which launched me on a six-year exploration of the private security industry. This groundwork laid the foundation for a smooth transition from policing: I had a plan, and I executed it.
I was lucky to have mentors who encouraged and guided me, their influence continuing to this day. Becoming a CSyP was my ultimate goal, the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance, and a deep passion for an industry that I truly believe in. CSyPs now hold a coveted seat at the decision-making table, alongside Chartered Architects and Engineers, influencing strategies across finance, critical national infrastructure, technology, healthcare, government, and space.
Our role extends beyond traditional security—we help shape organizational resilience, fuel innovation, and support sustainable growth. At our core is security convergence, harmoniously integrating physical, cyber, and operational security to address the ever-evolving threat landscape.
