Poland Braces for COVID-19 Peak; U.S. Vaccinations Surge

Poland braces for the peak of the third wave of COVID-19, while the U.S. makes strides in vaccination. New travel rules and closures are implemented across Europe and North America.

The Polish Ministry of Health predicts the third wave's peak will hit at the end of March or early April. Meanwhile, the U.S. has administered the first dose of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines to 46 million people, with 22 million receiving the second dose for full immunity.

Poland has tightened its borders, now requiring arrivals from the Czech Republic and Slovakia to present a negative test or vaccination certificate, accepting only EMA-approved vaccines. In Austria, the ski resort of Mayrhofen has temporarily closed due to the South African COVID-19 mutation's spread.

Canada's vaccination process has faced criticism, with only 3% of its population receiving the first dose. Poland has also reinforced quarantine measures and announced new restrictions in its northeast, closing schools, shopping centers, and other public places for at least two weeks.

Johnson & Johnson's single-dose vaccine, showing up to 85% efficacy in trials, has been approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Poland's strict border controls and quarantine measures aim to slow the virus's spread as the country prepares for the third wave's peak. The U.S. continues to vaccinate its population, with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine offering a single-dose solution. Despite progress, Canada's vaccination process has faced criticism, highlighting the challenges in global pandemic response.
