Police ceremony in Recklinghausen/Bottrop district: 29 recruits commence training at the police technical school
The Police Presidency Recklinghausen has welcomed a new group of police officer cadets, marking the beginning of their two-year training program under the 'NEXT LEVEL' initiative. Police President Friederike Zurhausen swore in 29 new students on August 27, 2022, at the Kuniberg-Kolleg in Recklinghausen.
The 'NEXT LEVEL' program, launched in 2022, aims to provide an alternative pathway to police service without the requirement of a (Fach-) Abitur. It started with eleven vocational school locations and has since expanded to include four more locations in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) in August 2023.
The students are pursuing a Fachhochschulabschluss in 'Economics and Administration with a focus on Police Service.' Their training will consist of alternating school training and police internships for a year, followed by a purely academic second year.
The role of the police, according to Police President Zurhausen, is to protect society, maintain and enforce law and order, and preserve and protect democracy. The training program emphasizes the importance of living democratic values actively in both service and leisure.
Police service requires courage, motivation, character, talent, and a strong sense of responsibility. After completing their two-year program, students will have a significant head start over university students who have not had previous practical experience.
